What is The Mysore Style Yoga Class?

Mysore Style is the name affectionately coined for the traditional way the Ashtanga Yoga practice was taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, Southern India.

It teaches students to develop an Independent Yoga Practice in a progressive posture by posture, step by step manner.

Within a group setting, students learn the Ashtanga Yoga Series of āsanas at an appropriate pace unique to their individual abilities . There is never any pressure to keep up with a "led class", a teachers pace, your neighbor or a group.

Everyone is encouraged to learn at their own speed, and integrate the practice in their own way with direct input from their teacher. This is the beautiful simplicity of the Mysore Style.

The teacher instructs each student individually.

New postures and specific modifications are taught on a case-by-case basis and more postures are given when the student develops the requisite strength, flexibility and stamina to proceed further in their practice.

This direct student - teacher relationship is at the heart of all true Yoga teaching and the Yoga Paramparā (the lineage of transmission from teacher to student).

What is the Intro to Mysore Style Class?

The Introduction to Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga provides an opportunity to study with Jeff & Harmony during a low demand period – often allowing for semi-private one-on-one instruction for the regular membership price.

This class is for students of all levels and is an excellent opportunity to develop a personal independent practice.

Direct input from the teacher, ensures a safe and nurturing experience and allows each student to progress at an appropriate rate for their body, and life circumstances.

Mysore Style Practice is the heart of Ashtanga Yoga.

This class is for all levels. It is GREAT FOR BEGINNERS as there will be lots of individual instruction for each student.
