Beyond the Business of Yoga
About the author: Harmony D. Lichty is a homegrown Canadian. She was first introduced to Yoga in 1995, but began to practice Ashtanga Yoga in 2000. After completing two Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Religious Studies and Philosophy, she immediately traveled to India to begin her studies with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore. She began teaching internationally in 2004, and now resides in Victoria, BC.

About the author: Sandra Anderson is a faculty member of the Himalayan Institute. She is co-author of the award-winning book Yoga: Mastering the Basics, and is a columnist for Yoga + Joyful Living magazine. Her work draws on her studies of traditional yoga texts and her extensive visits to India. Sandra holds a degree in geology and began her studies in yoga while working in the environmental protection field. Initiated into the Himalayan tradition in 1988, she lives at the Himalayan Institute, and teaches all aspects of yoga.

About the author: R. Alexander Medin is a native of Oslo, Norway. He was first introduced to Ashtanga Yoga in 1995, and it's been part of his daily yoga practice since. After many visits to Mysore, he was certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga by Pattabhi Jois in 2002. In 2004, he completed his post-graduate degree in Sanskrit and Indian Religions, and has since taught Yoga in many places around the world. This article is reproduced with his permission. Yoga During Pregnancy
About the Author: Mae Yoshikawa is a Japanese national, quarter-American by blood. She began her Ashtanga practice 2001. Since 2004, she has been traveling to India to learn directly from Guru, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy. In 2006, she became the first Japanese woman to be authorized by Guruji. Her career as a model started in 1994, with fashion and cosmetics. She has been the cover model for the Japanese YOGINI magazine since 2004, and has been publishing essays and yoga articles since the same year. Through this practice of Ashtanga yoga, Mae continues to pursue a lifestyle that is in harmony with Nature, and takes great joy in sharing such a way of living, both through teaching workshops and through various media. She currently lives in Kyushu, Japan, with her beloved son, Issa.
